1. Find a pair of cheap clip-on sunglasses that you don't like. Make sure it is the POLARIZED type. Mine is an oversized $8 plastic pair. Saw or cut it in half.
找一對便宜的、你不太喜歡的夾帶式太陽眼鏡。必須是偏光性的。(我用的是$8一對的塑膠偏光鏡片）。把它鋸或割成兩半。

2. Clean the glasses. Rotate one piece 90 degrees from the other then overlay them. Apply Elmer's multi-purpose glue on the rim.
將鏡片擦拭乾淨。將其中一片轉九十度，然後把兩鏡片疊在一起。沿著鏡片接觸的邊緣加上樹脂膠。

3. Before the glue dries, go out in the sun and look at a bright place through the pieced-together glasses. DO NOT LOOK AT THE SUN YET! Under the holding force of the sticky glue, slightly rotate one piece until you can't see anything through the glasses (and all you can see is the reflection of yourself). Let the adjusted glasses sit until the glue is dry. Now the viewing piece is completed.
趁樹脂膠未乾之前，在陽光下調整鏡片。透過鏡片看一明亮處（但千萬不可對著太陽），藉著樹脂膠的黏力，微微轉動其中一鏡片，直到你透過鏡片再也看不見什麼（除了你自己的反射）。將調好的鏡片置於一旁，等樹脂膠乾燥後，觀測鏡片就做成了。

4. Find a sleep-aid eye mask ; cut one and only one opening in the right or the left part of the mask (based on your astro-political stance; you do have to choose sides this time because cutting a hole in the center won't work).
找出以前坐飛機睡覺用的眼罩，在左邊或右邊的眼罩中剪一個洞。（或左或右，憑你的政治立場，但你一定要選個邊，因為在中間剪洞是不行的）。

5. Wear the modified eye mask to protect one of the eyes from exposure to the sun. Hold the viewing piece right in front of the unmasked eye BEFORE you look at the sun. For your safety, hold the viewing piece as close to the unmasked eye as possible.
戴上單眼眼罩，保護其中一眼。持著觀測鏡片於未蓋住的眼睛之前（愈近愈好，以策安全），然後才觀測日蝕 - 為了安全，這個次序很重要。
