政治人物的一生似乎命定會被某種煉金巫術大張旗鼓地詐騙一次。當政客與巫師的荒謬勾搭暴露之後,吾人瞠目結舌之餘,不免要仔細端詳魑魅魍魎的面目,即使它們那麼地不堪入目。
首先,何謂巫術?已逝的霍金先生說過,The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge. 深哉此言!據此定義,巫術乃製造知識幻覺的技術。巫術得以橫行天下,靠的就是人們對知識幻覺的迷戀。
臺中市長的學歷上列著建中、台大、耶魯等名校的市長,似乎斯文而有知識,似乎不應為巫術所惑。斯人也而有斯行,何以哉?
我推敲一番,認為有兩種可能:
可能一、
市長看似有知,其實無知。他的學歷乃知識之形,非知識之實。所謂「形之龐也類有德,聲之宏也類有能」,此人大概沒做過一天實事,對於自然科學的原理大概也沒有一丁點敬意,故而其知識並不能轉化為現代社會所需的分析判斷能力。
市長是所謂五年級生,敝人也是,且與他同年。五年級生非常幸運,因為我們是台灣知識剛啟蒙、政治剛鬆綁的受惠者。帶著五年級生的傲慢與偏見,我下意識地認為我們這一代與愚昧絕緣。因此當我看到市長昏於理智惑於巫術,內心非常沉痛。
可能二、
市長正經歷政治生涯的關鍵時期,從一介無害亦無益的書生逐漸蛻變為施行政治巫術的巫師。處在盛行巫術的政治環境,他必然受到同黨巫師的啟發,從過去的不屑不解轉變到今日的心領神會。他的巫法尚未純熟,故而小有挫敗,但他已深諳近親相親的島國政治三昧,從此再接再厲,必可上媚主意,下狎庶民,甚至問鼎尊位,主導國運。

黑,灰,白:網路設備變形史
The metamorphosis of network equipment (boxes) can be characterized by 3 phases: black, gray, and white.
網路設備之變形,可劃分為黑灰白三階段。
In the beginning, an inscrutable Black Box emerged out of the ether. It copied itself and talked only to its own kind. It was the best time for engineers.
混沌初開的時候,一只黑色的盒子生於乙太,無人知其所自。它自我滋生,繁衍其類,自說自話。這是工程師最好的時代。
Then came a Gray Box, which traded idiosyncrasy for public relations. Others followed suit, creating more than enough gray levels in too many gray areas. It was the best time for marketing managers.
後來出現一只灰色盒子,它放棄了遺世獨立的特質,用以換取公共關係。別的灰色盒子群起效尤,使得到處是灰色地帶,充斥過多吹毛求疵的灰階。這是行銷經理最好的時代。
Finally, as connectivity demanded uniformity, the White Box inevitably took the stage. Washing away the gray, it exchanged its soul for ubiquity. It is now the golden age for commodity managers.
然而,大量的網路連結迫使大家趨向一致。終於,一只白色的盒子命定般站上舞台,淘汰了所有灰色的盒子。它賣掉了靈魂,以便無所不在。這是物料經理最好的時代。
