Bengio 無疑是理性的理想主義者，強調科學的思考方式，但是 (1)世界上很多人完全不按照科學方式思考；(2)世界上所有人都不僅是按照科學方式思考。非科學的思考方式具有強大的創造力量，以及破壞力量。非科學思考方式的泉源在於：思考是為生存服務的，非為真相服務。如果真相有助於生存，很好，否則不如遺忘或編造謊言。我們自己就是這樣對待自己的記憶，因為我們要活得輕鬆一點。擴展到人類群體，便可推知：自由並不一定符合所有人的生存利益，因為人類的生存，和生物一樣，互相依賴也互相掠奪。而幻覺與謊言，是人類社群培養大規模的依賴感、編造掠奪的正義性的首要工具。
